Honoring Our Faith, Building On Tradition

Since 1964, Bishop Ireton High School has been a prominent Catholic institution of learning in the city of Alexandria. Originally staffed by the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, Bishop Ireton is excited to "Honor Our Faith and Build on Tradition" with a complete renovation of the current BI chapel. Working within the existing footprint, we will transform the St. Francis de Sales chapel into a beautiful space for worship.
The goal of this campaign is to fulfill our mission as a Catholic school. We are seeking to transform and expand our chapel, announcing a strong symbol of Catholicism, create a true center of campus, beautify our sacred space and continue to attract students and families committed to Catholic education.

Chapel improvements and renovations will include:

  • A new gabled roof with architectural details including east and west transepts with crosses
  • A Bell Tower, visible from all sides of campus
  • A new main entrance off the circle drive
  • A transformed Narthex area with a St. Francis de Sales Shrine
  • New religious stained-glass windows
  • New flooring, lighting and electrical
  • Expanded seating to accommodate 125 people (the current capacity is 70)
  • New pews and expanded seating area
  • A renovated sanctuary with new liturgical furnishings, including altar, tabernacle and ambo
  • A new confessional
  • New side shrines to the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph
  • An updated back entrance from the Murphy Hall courtyard
  • New brick color on the entire exterior to match the brick of the new academic building
