Head of School Welcome

Dear Visitor,

Welcome to the Bishop Ireton High School website! Thank you for taking the time to explore our vibrant Catholic school community. For the past 60 years, Bishop Ireton has educated students in the tradition of academic excellence with a mission to Advance Always. Our patron saints, St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal, guide us in our Salesian charism and the call to “Live Jesus,” as we remain rooted in educating the whole person – body, mind and spirit. We have successfully prepared thousands of students for college admission and the professional world throughout these past six decades, based on a rigorous academic curriculum and a dynamic extra-curricular program that has encouraged young people to pursue their passions and fully embrace community involvement through service and love of God and neighbor.

It is an exciting time at Bishop Ireton! Our campus houses an array of academic classrooms, labs, a critically acclaimed auditorium, resource centers and conferencing areas, as well as an athletic wing which includes two gymnasiums, athletic trainers’ facilities, a weight room, fitness center and Fannon Field. In 2020, we added a new, secure front entrance, and a four-story building addition which houses state of the art STEM classrooms, an engineering and robotics lab, a beautiful dining hall, an expansive library, study rooms, a student wellness center, outdoor classroom areas and academic support spaces for our dynamic special services program. Our challenging college preparatory curriculum exceeds state standards, and our outstanding, distinguished faculty is dedicated to facilitating learning and instilling core values that will make Salesian students the leaders of tomorrow and productive global citizens of the world.

Our Campus Ministry program, led by our fulltime Chaplain, Fr. Noah Morey, supports our students and faculty through daily Mass and sacramental opportunities, overnight and day retreats for all grades, and service experiences that span from peer mentorship to our schoolwide service day in Alexandria city. We celebrate and emphasize the dignity of the human person, and we understand the importance of that work in all that we do.

I am blessed to be a part of the Bishop Ireton community as Head of School, as a St. Mary’s Academy alumna, as the wife of a Bishop Ireton alum, and as a parent alum. I am intimately connected to the academic, social, emotional and spiritual gifts that Bishop Ireton High School provides to its students, and I understand the sacrifices that our families make as they entrust their children to our care. I encourage you to stop by and tour our expansive campus and experience the warmth and inviting atmosphere of our school community. St. Francis de Sales tells us, “Be who you are and be that well, giving honor to the Master craftsman whose handiwork you are.” His wisdom and faith remind us that each Bishop Ireton student has different gifts to offer the world and each must be encouraged to become the best version of himself or herself through God’s guidance. Come join us as we continue our educational journey to recognize the plan that God has for each one of us.

Blessings,

Kathleen McNutt
