Cardinals Dominate Titans 5-1

The Cardinal's Varsity Hockey squad got off to a flying start last Friday by defeating last year’s league champs T.C. Williams 5-1.

Coach DiCarlo’s boys dominated possession in the first period, finally breaking through with a power play goal by captain Alex Simuro for a 1-0 lead. Both goalies shut down the offensive attacks in the second frame with Cardinal netminder Brendan Smith repeatedly turning away the Titan attacks. But the Cardinals were not to be denied, as Graham Kalan immediately scored off the opening face-off in the third period for a quick 2-0 lead. The Titans eventually broke through to make it 2-1, but Kalan and his line almost immediately answered to restore the two goal lead. Kalan rifled in a third goal for his hat trick, and Robert Purpuro punched home a rebound seconds later for the final 5-1 margin. A great team effort marked by dominant possession of the puck, rock-solid goaltending, and great passing, bodes well for the season to come.

The ice hockey team's next game is at  Mount Vernon ReCenter on Friday, November at 9;00 p.m. against a combined team of Madison/Edison. Come cheer on our Cardinals!
