Earlier this Spring, the Virginia Senate commended our cheerleading team on winning the 2018 Christian Cheerleaders of America national championship. The full proclamation is below:
SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 521
Commending the Bishop Ireton High School cheerleading team.
Agreed to by the Senate, May 14, 2018
WHEREAS, in March 2018, the Bishop Ireton High School cheerleading team of Alexandria won the Christian Cheerleaders of America national championship for the third consecutive year; and
WHEREAS, the Bishop Ireton High School Cardinals placed first in the tumbling, music, and non-music categories of the large varsity division and received the highest score of any division at the national competition, held in Fayetteville, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, the Bishop Ireton Cardinals—12 veterans from the previous national victories and nine newcomers—were also selected by their fellow competitors to receive the National Spirit of Competition trophy, which honors the team that shows the most support to other schools; and
WHEREAS, after the victorious season, Bishop Ireton Cardinals head coach Angela Hope-Eskew, a former Christian Cheerleaders of America (CCA) Coach of the Year, was inducted into the CCA Coaches Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, the Bishop Ireton Cardinals’ national win is a testament to the skill and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the energetic support of the entire Bishop Ireton High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Bishop Ireton High School cheerleading team hereby be commended on winning the 2018 Christian Cheerleaders of America national championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Angela Hope-Eskew, head coach of the Bishop Ireton High School cheerleading team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
