We are excited to finally have broken ground and begun construction on our new Academic Center, which replaces the Oblate House demolished last summer to make way for this new project. The new wing will include an expanded cafeteria, a library/media center and learning commons, STEM labs, as well as additional classrooms and collaborative learning spaces. We are thrilled to see progress on this long-anticipated expansion and are eager to see all the positive changes this project will have on the future of Bishop Ireton.
While we are under construction, regular updates will be provided in This Week at BI, special blast emails, our website, and social media channels. on its impact on our community. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter at @bishopiretonhs.
As this school year begins, we ask that you allow plenty of time to note the changes to traffic patterns and parking. Please notethelocation of the construction area (see image below) and follow all posted signs. The construction area is strictly off-limits. The only route from the lower lot to the upper lot will be along the public sidewalk on Cambridge Road. We ask you to adhere to these guidelines for your own safety, as well as for those around you. If you are coming to campus for a sporting event or after-school activity, please allow plenty of time to find parking and relay this information to any extended family members and friends who also plan to attend.
We ask for your patience with student drop-off and pick-up, especially during the first few weeks of school. As in past years, we will have an Alexandria Sheriff present during the first week of school to assist with traffic flow in the mornings and afternoons. Also providing assistance will be our new School Safety Officer (SSO), who also has the bigger job of serving as the main point of contact for school security throughout the year.
As much as we have tried to mitigate any inconvenience this project may cause, inevitably situations arise that we cannot anticipate. We ask for your partnership as we continue to keep our campus safe and welcoming. Should you see anything that concerns you regarding the safety and well-being of our community, contact us immediately. Please direct all questions and concerns to our Director of Operations, Peter Davey (pgdavey@bishopireton.org or 703-212-5146), and he will relay them to appropriate staff.
The goal is to have the new building along with several renovations to the existing building completed by the end of 2019. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time as we work towards the completion of this project over the coming weeks and months.
I look forward to welcoming you back to campus soon!
