Theater Program Update

Joanna Henry, who directs our Theater Program, traveled to NYC this summer for a three-day Broadway Teachers Workshop. The workshop aims to inspire teachers and directors in middle school, high school, and college theater with new teaching methods, enhanced production skills, and an exchange of ideas with peers and professional Broadway artists.

During each day of the workshop, Joanna had the chance to learn from her peers, as well as meet cast and crew after current Broadway shows. She attended sessions on Directing, Playwriting, Stage Managing, Directing a Musical, Engaging Ensembles in Songs, and Prepping Students for College Auditions, to name a few. A few of the people Joanna met and worked with during the three-day workshop included David Loud (Music Director for "Curtains," "Ragtime," & "Porgy and Bess"), Tony Award nominees Sheryl Kaller ("Mother's and Sons," "Next Fall")Lonny Price ("Sunset Boulevard," "110 in the Shade") and John Cariani ("The Band's Visit," "Something Rotten, " & "Fiddler on the Roof").

She is bringing back a wealth of information and strategies to share with the Ireton community to help our theater program Advance Always. Our two shows this year are Radium Girls in the Fall (November 7-11) and Curtains in the Spring (March 22-24 & 29-30), and they are sure to be a hit!
