As a Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Global High School, Bishop Ireton faculty, staff, and students will be collecting for the Rice Bowl Program.
At the encouragement of Bishop Burbidge, Bishop Ireton has become a CRS (Catholic Relief Services) Global High School. As a result, this year as we begin our observance of Lent as a school community, we are participating in the CRS Rice Bowl Program.
This Lenten service project provides a unique opportunity for each of us to experience and put into action Ash Wednesday’s familiar Gospel reading and to deepen our spiritual practices during this time of self-examination.
Students were introduced to this project by Mrs. Tobin, Principal, after the Ash Wednesday Mass. Today, the rice bowls will be distributed in advisories for students to bring home. We are hoping for a high participation rate, and we have set a school goal of a $5 contribution in each bowl. Of course, larger contributions are welcomed! Bowls will be collected shortly before the Easter vacation. We encourage everyone through alms giving, prayers, and fasting to participate in this effort to help others who are less fortunate than us and to promote Catholic social teachings throughout the world. In addition, 25 percent of the funds raised stay in the Diocese to help those in need nearby.
