Model UN Team Success at the College of William and Mary
The Bishop Ireton Model UN Team traveled to the College of William and Mary over Veterans Day Weekend for the 32nd Annual Model UN Conference.
Over 1250 student delegates were in attendance and represented 76 schools from across the country. There were a total of 31 committees and Bishop Ireton was represented on ten of them. The debate and diplomacy began late Friday afternoon and continued all day Saturday and into Sunday morning. Several of the committee simulations were held in the historic Wren Building, which contributed to the feeling of history as the student delegates recreated the past. Two of our delegates, Patrick Riley ‘19 (the Virginia House of Burgesses) and Anne Marie Caballero ‘19 (Ad-Hoc Committee) were in the upper floors of the Wren Building.
Overall, our delegates performed admirably, gaining a wealth of experience (in particular for the newer and younger delegates), while gaining accolades for their diplomatic skills, professional courtesy and knowledge. The following BI student delegates were recognized with awards for their abilities and performance:
Gavel (1st Place):
Patrick Riley - representing Richard Henry Lee (Virginia House of Burgesses historic simulation)
Honorable Mention (3rd Place):
Molly McDade - representing Jan Koam (Facebook 2020 simulation of the presidential election)
