3 Ways to Power a Rover
Last week, students from Mrs. Slaton's Engineering Principles I class experimented with three different sources of power (solar, hydrogen, and battery) on miniature rover vehicles.
The objective of the assignment was to observe and measure the effectiveness of each power supply on the vehicles. The testing allowed them to understanding how various power sources worked, and how specifically they could be used to power an electric car.
The course, part of the school's Project Lead the Way curriculum, allows students to work in teams to plan, design and supervise the development of projects from conception through completion in four major engineering disciplines: civil, mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering. Throughout the year, students will also learn about other topics such as digital robotics, testing the structural integrity of tresses and bridges, metal's resilience to varying heat sources, and more.
