The BI faithful came out in large numbers to cheer their Varsity Hockey squad to a 7-3 win on Friday night over a combined team from Edison, Hayfield, Mason, Marshall, and Annandale high schools.
Technically a "road game," the raucous Cardinal fans loudly cheered every offensive attack, defensive stop, and big hit as Coach DiCarlo's crew cruised to a second dominating victory. Eight different Cardinals contributed a goal or assist with Robert Purpuro notching a hat trick plus one, Aaron Afeworki a goal and two assists, and William Holden and Graham Kalan each snaring a goal. William Oakeley and Warren Payne teamed up to turn away 21 of 24 shots. But the loud Cardinal fans were an intangible the opponents simply could not match. Catch the hockey fever as the Cardinals play on home ice at Mount Vernon against Flint Hill this Friday at 5:15 p.m., and at the Prince William Ice Center next Monday at 8:10 p.m. for a match up with West Springfield.
