Bishop Ireton Announces Hiring of Four New Head Coaches for the 2023-2024 School Year

Bishop Ireton is excited to announce the hiring of four new varsity coaches to the Bishop Ireton Athletic program. The Cardinals welcome Erin Hellmold as the varsity girls lacrosse coach, Avery Potter (BI ‘19) as the varsity field hockey coach, Jordan Clement as the varsity boys soccer coach and Nadine Lilavois as the varsity volleyball coach.
Coach Erin Hellmold brings more than two decades of lacrosse experience to her role as the head coach of BI’s esteemed girls lacrosse program. After playing four years at Johns Hopkins University, she was the Associate Head Coach for Women’s Lacrosse at Georgetown University for eight years. Simultaneously, Coach Hellmold served as the Director and co-owner of New York Lacrosse Academy (a position she held until November 2021). In 2017, she co-founded Dominion Liberty Lacrosse and worked as the Director for that program until 2021 when she became the Associate Vice President/National Teams Director at True Lacrosse.

Coach Avery Potter returns to Bishop Ireton having graduated in 2019. While at Bishop Ireton, she was a three-sport athlete (field hockey, basketball and lacrosse) and was the captain of the field hockey team her junior and senior years. Following her graduation, Coach Potter attended Quinnipiac University where she was a member of the Women’s Lacrosse program.

Coach Jordan Clement has a deep resume coaching soccer at different levels. After his time at the University of New Mexico, he coached at Rio Rapids Youth Academy before moving to Virginia. Coach Clement has coached youth travel teams and was the assistant varsity coach for boys soccer at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School for more than three years. Most recently, he was the boys varsity head coach at Annandale High School.

Coach Nadine Lilavois has more than 25 years of volleyball coaching experience. Following a decorated career as a player including a scholarship to Hofstra University (where she was named “Player of the Year” in the East Coast Conference in 1985), she was the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Boston College for five years from 1992-1997. After her time at BC, Coach Lilavois was the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at the University of Buffalo from 1999-2001. Prior to working at Bishop Ireton, she was the Head Varsity Coach at Lake Braddock Secondary School. In the fall of 2022, Coach Lilavois led the girls BI volleyball team as interim head coach.

“I’m excited to welcome Coach Hellmold, Coach Potter, Coach Clement and Coach Lilavois to the Bishop Ireton family,” said Athletic Director Dwayne Bryant. “Our four new coaches will be excellent additions to our Athletic Department and programs. We know they will lead by example and we look forward to seeing their teams compete and win against some of the best schools in the country in the WCAC.”

“We are confident these new coaches will bring fantastic leadership to their respective teams as we continue to build a culture of hard work, competitiveness and sportsmanship to our athletic programs,” said Head of School Kathleen McNutt. “We are so excited to welcome them to the Cardinal family.”

Each head coach has begun preseason preparations and will assume their role at the beginning of their respective seasons.
